Message No. They use a pretty light grit and just hit the surface a couple times. They follow up with a cloth like polishing band to remove any light blemishes.

If the crank journals are in rough shape they will have to cut them down which would probably remove the nitride hardening layer. You'd be better off finding a used crank to replace it with.
